Collect UMCOR Health Kits & Pray for Haiti
Comments: 0
Glenn Dale United Methodist Church responded to Bishop Schol’s request for prayers and aid to Haiti by taking special collections for immediate financial aid and are also supporting the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) effort by collecting UMCOR Sager Brown Health Kits for the Haitian emergency.
We will be collecting them through March 21, 2010. You many donate money, items for the kits, or make up the kits yourself, whatever is convenient. A collection box is in the back of the church.
If you do the kits yourself, please follow the instructions below. Gather the following:
- 1 hand towel (15″ x 25″ up to 17″ x 27″, No kitchen towels)
- 1 washcloth
- 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
- 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
- 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
- 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
- 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
- $1 to purchase toothpaste (UMCOR Sager Brown is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent)
Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag. Put a second $1 in an envelope and tape it to the outside of the bag. The second $1 is a collection fee for St. Matthews United Methodist Church, which is a designated drop-off site for the health kits.
Also, please pay attention to the following:
- All items included in kits must be NEW items.
- All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items-nothing more.
- Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.
